Sculpture gifts

Sculpture, as a holiday present, is a welcomed gift for a variety of reasons. A sculpture, effectively placed around the home or office, artistically accents any room. Large or small, metal or clay, receiving sculpture as a holiday present speaks to the artist within all of us.

When purchasing sculpture for the holidays, there are three things to consider:

  • The Price Range
  • The Material
  • The Size

All of these factors play a significant part in determining the success of your holiday present.

Price

As with any holiday present, a determination needs to be made as to how much you would care to spend on such a sculpture. Artistic gifts are wonderful to give and a welcomed treat to receive; but keep in mind the price for such an artistic gift can range from a few hundred to a few thousand rather easily.

Materials

Sculpture, literally, has evolved from simple marble creations adorning gardens and religious sanctuaries, to on-display works of art adorning the interior of homes, and the acres of land adorning airports, freeways and privately owned fields. With the transition of technology it has become easier and more accessible to create fine works of art out of various woods, metals, and even glass.

Here are some helpful tips to consider when giving sculpture holiday gifts:

Do’s:

  • Stay within your budget.
  • Browse through several eras of sculpture to determine the best era for your recipient.
  • Let your imagination run wild.

Don’ts:

  • Be dismayed at the cost.
  • Be surprised by a waiting period; especially if purchasing from an artisan.
  • Believe you have to have the biggest piece of sculpture for it to be considered the best piece of art.

Size

When deciding to purchase sculpture as a holiday present one must consider the size of the sculpture and the placement of such art. Purchasing a custom-made metal sculpture for a loved one’s garden or front yard is wonderful provided that the recipient likes such things and isn’t put off by the enormity of the art. Conversely, giving a piece of sculpture that is too small could lead one to believe there is no purpose in the sculpture at all.
